At the Center for Health, Learning and Achievement, we recognize that children and adults, not only learn at different rates and abilities of speed, but that each person has differnt learning style and needs. Because we believe that Educational Remediation can not be taken care of in a generic "one shoe fits all', we offer the following programs that are specifically chosen to provide the individual with the success that they deserve.
Academic Coaching - Many students with ADHD have a difficult time with organizational skills and Executive Function. We offer coaching and support for those students to become more responsible for their academics as well as time management of their life in general. We provide assistance with organization for major projects, turning in of assignments, organizing their backpacks and various other skills including time management and planning.
Balametrics® - A physical activity program that enhances brain function. These activities work on attention/focus, sequencing, planning and multitasking. Used as a warm up activity, we find that our clients actually complete their programs faster than those who don’t.
Challenging Our Minds® - a research evidence-based, cognitive skills enhancement system that prepares a child to be a better learner. An individual person's brain skills (such as the attention skills, the executive skills [that allow us to collect and process information], memory, visual and auditory processing, problem solving, communications skills and psychosocial skills) are the main goal of this program.
FastForWord (Scientific Learning) – The Language and Reading series’ – Strengthens brain processing efficiency for learning and reading success. Using patented technology, the Fast ForWord® family of products retrains the brain to process language more efficiently; improving auditory processing, speech and reading skills.
interactive Metronome (IM) - Originally developed to enhance music and athletic skills, Interactive Metronome is now also used in re-habilitation and education. IM is a Computer based training program that develops sustained attention (up to 50 minutes) and motor control and coordination. Interactive Metronome also improves timing and sequencing as well as reading and math fluency. Complete training takes approximately 15-20 sessions (approximately 50 minutes per session). We will meet 3-5 times a week.
PACE (Processing and Cognitive Enhancement) - PACE targets critical foundational skills necessary for academic success. It improves processing speed, memory attention, auditory process, Decoding skills (reading) and encoding Skills (written).
Lindamood-Bell® family of Programs – A computer based program that can be trained in your home on your own computer. These computer based programs are helpful to individuals with Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD), and are a good supplementary program to an overall reading plan.
LiPS® - Symbol Imagery for Phonemic Awareness, Sight Words and Spelling.
Seeing Stars® – The Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing® Program for Reading, Spelling and Speech (LiPs).
Visualizing and Verbalizing® - for Language Comprehension and Thinking® (V/V®)
Lyman System® - A multisensory approach to writing that incorporates audio, visual and kinesthetic movement in the writing process. Its approach to Multisensory training enhances memory for symbols, sight words and syllables, also assists in training fluid and legible writing. It is useful in developing word naming and the ability to memorize whole words as pictures for treating the word naming/retrieval
Master The Code - a part of PACE and Learning RX - An excellent sound to code based reading and spelling program. Master the Code is trained one on one, 6x per week, 3x at home and 3x with a trainer. Reading fluency and comprehension are also improved.
Test Prep - We provide a wide range of test prep services including but not limited to SAT/ACT, College graduate exams, FCAT, ISEE and more.
Tutoring - Tutoring is offered to that student who has a working knowledge of the material, but has gaps that need to be filled. Once those gaps are filled, the student is able to continue, with success, in that particular subject. We provide tutoring assistance in all areas of learning.
Wilson Reading System - The Wilson Reading System is a research-based reading and writing program. It is a complete curriculum for teaching decoding and encoding (spelling) beginning with phoneme segmentation. WRS directly teaches the structure of words in the English language so that students master the coding system for reading and spelling.
